What is it?

miniMETOS by Pessl Instruments is a completely invisible, battery-powered soil sensor designed to measure soil temperature and volumetric water content (VWC) for precision irrigation management.

Managing irrigation and anticipating water stress is difficult when relying entirely on above-ground weather stations. Furthermore, in areas like golf courses, public parks, or high-traffic agricultural fields, installing visible, above-ground sensors exposes the equipment to vandalism, theft, or damage from heavy machinery. The miniMETOS resolves both the data and security challenges. It permanently measures soil temperature and volumetric water content using a combination of specialized sensors (PI54-D and Watermark). Crucially, the installation of the logger can be completely underground and invisible, protecting the hardware while transmitting near real-time data.
